Star Wars: X-Wing (DOS) Tour I [Classic missions] speedrun in 1:13:47
Played on DOSBox Staging 0.78.1, max cycles. Music is GM [RealFont]. Controls are mouse & keyboard.
Goal: Successfully complete all 12 Tour I missions (classic mode). No death, no capture (but rescue is ok). Using default in-game settings: limited weapons, vulnerability, collision on. Time begins on entering Mission 1 for the first time, and it ends when the ending cutscene starts.
Pilot assignments are also default. Additionally, game is set to skip transitions (for speed, ofc).
Pretty solid, route-wise. Some missions are more troublesome than others. This run fails M10 once (aborted when the rescue shuttle was lost), but others missions went alright. M07 is a bit wonky, so time can vary depending on how the rescue craft AI is operating. Most missions are just waiting for a critical event, but there may be a few things you can do to speed things up.
HOW TO WIN A STAR TOUR
There's some very basic speed tech here. Mouse & keyboard control seems to work well since it allows you to turn with both at the same time for faster positioning. Also, for targeting, you don't always need to wait for full lock-on. You get partial lock depending on how long you've been targeting, and for less maneuverable targets, you may still be able to hit with high probability.
All the missions are essentially 'satisfy all objectives'. As determined by each mission, individual objectives can be:
- Identify unit -- you just need to fly very close to target
- Destroy unit -- which means it has to be destroyed, but you don't necessarily have to destroy it yourself
- Wait for unit to arrive -- wait for a unit to jump in, often via a timed event
- Allow unit to be boarded - AI-controlled unit must complete docking operation with unit craft
- Allow unit to complete its mission -- this means the unit must leave the area normally*
- Allow craft to be recovered -- a unit must be boarded, captured, then leave the area normally*
'Identify' is completely within your control, as AI can't identify other units. It's up to you.
'Destroy' is also within your control, but AI can assist. In fact, you MAY be able to command wingmen to attack your target to accomplish this.
'Wait' is a normal timed event. There could be some thing that needs to be done to trigger the event, OR you could just be at the mercy of scripting.
'Allow' is generally an escort task. There may be certain tasks that need to be done first, like identifying a target, but once that unit is proceeding, it's basically wait around and help keep them alive.
'Leave the area normally*' is a caveat. A unit doesn't keep track of things it did, so if it's able to safely leave the area, it considers that a success. The normally* part is there because some units expect to jump out to hyperspace, and some expect to enter the hangar of a carrier craft. So, in SOME cases, this can be exploited.
You have command over some craft, and one of the commands you can give is 'go home', which in this context means 'jump to hyperspace'. It may be generally helpful to send some friendly craft home to get them out of the way. In some instances, this is an easy way to get a craft to complete its mission early. A good example is M04. If you send the shuttles home early, you avoid having them wait in line to dock with the frigate. Unfortunately, you don't have command over the corvette that also has to dock, but moving the shuttle out does make that go a heck of a lot quicker.
After all objectives have been completed (you may hear audible signal from R2 when this happens), you can eject in SOME cases without getting captured. It depends on the mission, and it may also depend on other factors within the mission (like location or time). It does not seem to be random.

4:44 how are you getting into the places that require high Rep?
For Icarus Descending (rep >= 6), you are able to bypass the rep requirement IF you've talked to Boris at the greenhouse about Michael. This is why we do the greenhouse so early. It opens up a lot of the route. The only other rep requirement that matters is Club Penumbra (rep >= 4) which comes much later in the route, of course, after we're able to earn 18 karma. Technically there's a high rep requirement for Matchstick (rep >= 6), but all that does is bypass the cover charge of 150Y, so it's not much of a barrier.

I played this on the Sega CD. The time element was so tedious and moronic. I dig the style of the videos though. It brings back a lot of memories. I can still quote a lot of these lines. I can't believe this game is 30 years old! Crazy.
Nice run there. I had no idea there was so much back and forth to beat this game. The technique of selling the shadowrunners loot for cash seems kind of funny but whatever works!
Very interesting. I never knew it was possible to really speedrun sewer shark. I figured all deathless runs took the same amount of time. I read the video description and you are a Sewer Shark genius! How come you used the Sega CD version and not the 3DO one? I play through Sewer Shark every now and again. I had it for Sega CD back in the day but when I replay it I go with the 3DO version since the video is so much better. They should both play the same I'd think. You should be able to get the same time on the 3DO version unless there are more differences that I'm not aware of.

Thank you for this glitch walkthrough! I love that the game simply awards you the ID card on the 2nd stage if you didn't get it the 1st stage, so you don't even have to talk to the wounded guy. Never even heard of the 2nd glitch-- is that the only one you can do on the console? I couldn't get the 1st glitch to work on the Genesis, just the emulator.

It’s funny I saw an interview at the premiere with him where he talks about playing bill in the last of us. And asked if he played the game he said, “no, infact the last video game I played was back in 1994.” And this is what I think he was talking about.
Think i saw a similar interview but it was Banjo Kazooie he was addicted to and had quit gaming afterwards but he hated the drop in dopamine once it was finished. If it was this it woukd definately have been for other reasons.

It's done to earn the extra karma points needed to upgrade Joshua's reputation to 4, which is a hard requirement to get into Club Penumbra. Note: icing more than 2 civilians will get you hit with a warrant which will prevent you from buying passports, so it's important not to start this spree too early.
Best game of all time. Try playing without cheats makes for a long game ❤🎉

Your spreadsheet has 16385 total lies, which means there's a mistake in there somewhere. Also my father found 68 specific lies for a certain set of paramaters for one of the characters on impossible, and your sheet only listed 67, we triple-checked it, and that's another error in the database.
It definitely has 16384 on all tables; I'm not sure how you're counting that. As for the 68, you'll have to be a little more specific about the data point you're looking at. All my data was extracted via emulation using lua script, therefore I cannot guarantee it's free of error. But if you let me know which data is incorrect, I may be able to re-extract and verify.
